Why it matters

The financial-literacy gap

Most young people enter adulthood without the skills to manage money — and the consequences follow them for years.

76%

Commonly cited figures on youth financial confidence and student debt.

Financial habits formed in middle and high school carry into adulthood. Students who practice budgeting, saving, and credit decisions early are less likely to fall into debt traps later. MoneyQuest turns those lessons into a space adventure, because the best time to learn about money is before real decisions depend on it.

Origin story

Built by a high school student

When Rishab Nanduri looked around at his classmates at Oakton High School in Northern Virginia, he noticed something troubling: students were graduating without even the most basic money skills — no idea how credit cards worked, how to build savings, or what compound interest actually meant.

Frustrated by dry textbooks that failed to connect with Gen Z, Rishab designed MoneyQuest from the ground up: an interactive, space-themed game that turns every financial concept into a mission. He built it entirely in his free time, outside of school.

To keep it permanently free and accessible, he incorporated MoneyQuest as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — no subscriptions, no hidden fees, no premium tiers.
